The Rotten Apple: The End of a Myth

The United States is steadily diminishing in importance due to the increasing power of Middle Eastern countries. Involvement in the catastrophic wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the rise of Donald Trump and populism as well as a growing precarization of labour—all these processes testify to the decline of the American Dream.

My photographs are intended to symbolically illustrate that gradual decline. They were all taken in New York, which in the past served as the gateway to the Promised Land for millions of European immigrants.

This metropolis, nicknamed the Big Apple, encapsulates all social ills plauging the whole country, which, like NYC, has turned into a big rotten apple.
